| I
made this first commission after somebody approached
me to make the “perfect gift” for
the newest member of the family and her parents.
I have also made memory quilts for weddings, and celebrating the lives of grandmothers!
What I need from the client is their favorite pictures, and the best pictures
make for the most glorious final result! If there are many family photos, they
can be put in the entire border around the quilt as in the first of the “organic
baby quilt” series.

The
young people for whom I made this quilt
got pregnant unexpectedly while on an
African Safari, which is why I put all
the wildlife in the picture! |

I
teach classes in quilt making and needed a
baby quilt that would stay with me as a “sample”,
which is why I made this quilt which features
my parents – our roots - and my sister
and myself – with my mother’s three
girls on top. |

Carin's Quilt
fine art quilt

Carin
gave me the measurments of her bed and told
me she loved “all things Hawaiian”.
She sent me some Hawaiian fabric pieces she
loved and I used them to design this bedquilt.
When
the center was finished, I tried two different
border fabrics which I sent her by email, and
she chose the one she liked best. |

Mr.
Rush's Quilt
fine art quilt
42" x51"
2001 |
| |
|
This
was by far the most challenging piece I have
done as a commission. Mr. Rush gave me the
picture of his grand daughter with the basketball
and
I made the quilt with the picture as my guide.
Since it was a gift for the young lady’s
parents, I knew that the teen had to live with
it, which is why I decided to use the photo
for her face (and the basketball) instead of
piecing
the portrait. |
